This program is an introduction to hazardous materials. This
training is required by OSHA for all emergency responders.

This full day program is a continuation of HMA, geared towards
EMS professionals and the types of patients we may encounter.
Introduction to
Weapons of Mass Destruction (3)
This is ETC's introduction program to WMD. Includes lecture and
videos and serves as an alternative to the NJSP program.
NFA:
BLS and Haz Mat Support (8)
Assists in understanding and complying with federal regulations and
national recommendations concerning emergency medical response to
hazardous materials incidents.
NFA: Hazardous
Materials: The Pesticide Challenge (8)
Provides emergency response personnel, officers, training officers and
firefighters with basic information on the safe handling of pesticide
fire or spill incidents from product release to clean up operations.
Case histories and simulation exercises are extensively used to reinforce
the material presented.
NFA: Emergency
Response to Terrorism: Basic Concepts (16)
This awareness-level course, developed by the National Fire
Academy, is designed primarily for fire-rescue and EMS personnel,
although other emergency responders can benefit from the course. A
background in hazardous materials is helpful but not required. The
program covers the history and categories of terrorism and terrorist
organizations in the United States and abroad, self-protection measures
to be taken at explosive and NBC (nuclear-biological-chemical) incidents,
crime scene and perimeter control procedures, defensive tactical
operations, and building an Incident Command organization for terrorism
responses.

Continuation of the NJSP WMD program.
Emergency Response to
Radiation Incidents (6)
This class covers the chemistry, response
and medical treatment of radiation incidents and exposure. An in-depth
and advanced program, that includes basic chemistry.
Anthrax as a
Biological Weapon (3)
The anthrax attacks of 2001 brought this obscure disease into the
limelight. What is anthrax and where does it come from?
Smallpox as a
Biological Weapon (3)
The question as to the need for vaccination has brought this
disease back into the press. We will discuss the history of smallpox and
the threat to us today.
Tularemia, Ricin and
Plague as Biological Weapons (3)
This program covers these and other agents of biological
terrorism. Designed for the individual that wants a more advanced
understanding of biological agents.
Viruses and Toxins as Biological
Weapons (2)
This class discusses various viruses and toxins and how they can be used
in terrorism. Ebola, Marburg and mycotoxins are covered.
EMS Response to
Botulism (2)
Botulism can be a biological weapon, but it can also be a
naturally occurring disease that EMS providers could encounter. This
program discusses the history, use and presentation of patients involved
in botulism intoxication.
Overview of Nerve Agents (3)
A discussion of what nerve agents are and how they work. The
Tokyo Sarin attack by Aum Shinrikyo is reviewed, as well as how these
agents could be used in agriculture and exposure could result from a
non-terrorism incident.
Overview of Blood
Agents (Cyanide) (2)
Blood agents such as cyanide act at a cellular level to impair
the body's ability to use oxygen. This program will discuss the effects
of this and similar agents.
Overview of Pulmonary
Agents (2)
Pulmonary agents cause difficulty in respiration due to coughing,
the inability to breathe, or other action on the lungs.
Overview of Blister
Agents (2)
Blister agents affect the skin. This class discusses the
chemical agents causing the blisters.
Haz-Mat/WMD Modules
Respiratory Protection Training Module (3 hrs)
This program covers the OSHA/PEOSH regulations regarding the use of
Respiratory Protection, ranging from simple filtration masks to Supplied
Air and SCBA.
Victim Decontamination Module (3 CEUs)
This program is a practical evolution in victim decontamination.
Mass Casualty Decon Module (3 CEUs)
The decontamination of large numbers of victims is different from the
routine decontamination of 2-3 victims. This practical evolution will
demonstrate several techniques to the provider.
Decon in Cold Weather Module (3 CEUs)
Decontaminating a victim in the winter is a unique challenge. This
program will cover this topic and also the treatment of cold-related
injuries.
Mass Fatalities Management Module (3 CEUs)
This program will discuss how emergency services may assist in the
management of large numbers of deceased victims.
